Drone Threat Hovers Over Paris Olympics

It may be a long way from any battlefield but the 2024 Paris Olympics is preparing for the threat of a drone attack with what one official calls "unrivalled" measures. Fear of a terror attack has haunted every Olympic host nation for half a century since Palestinian gunmen took members of the Israeli team hostage during the 1972 Olympics in Munich. The last terror act at an Olympics was in Atlanta in 1996 when a pipe bomb exploded as revellers enjoyed a rock concert. Two people were killed and more than 100 injured in the attack, for which a US extremist was jailed. But the use of civilian drones by armed and criminal groups in recent years poses a new and high-tech nightmare scenario for Olympic organisers.

The Ocean Race: 'We're effectively re-starting the race' - Team Malizia can 'fight for the lead' says Will Harris

The Ocean Race is having a re-start almost three weeks into Leg 3 as competition remains incredibly close, according to Team Malizia’s Will Harris. Four IMOCAs are separated by just 20 nautical miles and with two weeks of racing to go, excitement at the event is building. Ad The lighter conditions which have compressed the fleet together have also given the crews time to complete much-needed maintenance and repairs — on boats and people alike.

The Ocean Race 2022-23: Kevin Escoffier says Team Holcim-PRB are ‘not as focussed or precise’ as before

Team Holcim-PRB skipper Kevin Escoffier believes his crew are “not as focussed or precise” compared to how they were earlier in Leg 3 of The Ocean Race. Holcim-PRB currently have a perfect record, having won the opening two legs and were first across the scoring gate last Sunday. Ad They had built a lead of over 500 nautical miles, but have been reeled in by Team Malizia, Biotherm and 11th Hour Racing Team, with just 31 nautical miles splitting all four teams on Friday at 15:00 GMT.
