All 130 professional snooker players on the World Snooker Tour will be guaranteed minimum earnings of £20,000 for the 2022/23 season in a major £2.6m cash boost. An initial payment of £10,000 will be doled out this month with another £10,000 paid to the tour member in January.

Thai snooker player Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon has been charged with allegedly fixing the outcome of six matches and suspended from the sport. 28-year-old Tirapongpaiboon is cooperating with governing body the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) and faces a formal hearing with six matches under scrutiny between 2013 and 2015. The Hong Kong Masters is set to invite the top six players in the world to join local icons Marco Fu – a three-time ranking event winner – and three-time women's world champion Ng On Yee in competing for the prestigious title in October. Rory McLeod says snooker is “still in the dark ages” when it comes to promoting the sport for Black people, claiming those at the top of the game are “actually doing nothing” to change the culture.
