Bayer Leverkusen akan menjamu AC Milan di Liga Champions tengah pekan ini. Lawan yang menyimpan memori indah untuk pelatih Die Werkself Xabi Alonso.
Bayer Leverkusen host AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, hoping for a sparkling performance from star midfielder Florian Wirtz. Still just 21, Wirtz will make his home debut in the competition, having missed Leverkusen's most recent Champions League campaign with an ACL injury. That he will do so against seven-time champions Milan feels appropriate for a player tipped for a long career on the European stage. Leverkusen's squad is deep in quality and Xabi Alonso's coaching is rightly praised, but Wirtz's spark is central to everything the team does.
Harry Kane went off injured as Bayern Munich were held 1-1 at home by champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Robert Andrich put the visitors ahead after 31 minutes in Munich but Aleksandar Pavlovic pulled leaders Bayern level eight minutes later with an incredible long range shot. England captain Kane, who was largely anonymous in front of goal, hobbled off with a foot injury with four minutes remaining after a collision with Leverkusen's Amine Adli.
Pulling the strings in Saturday's early Bundesliga title showdown between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen will be 21-year-old Germany forwards Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. The midfielders, born within 10 weeks of each other in 2003, have combined brilliantly at international level, but will go head to head at Munich's Allianz Arena this weekend. While the match, held against the backdrop of Munich's Oktoberfest, comes just five games into the season, it will give the victors early bragging rights in what is likely to be a tight title race.
Victor Boniface struck a stoppage-time winner to give Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen a thrilling 4-3 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday, while Borussia Dortmund were outclassed in a 5-1 hammering at Stuttgart. In a seesaw encounter, Leverkusen and Wolfsburg were locked at 3-3 from the 48th minute. Wolfsburg were then reduced to 10 men in the dying stages when Yannick Gerhardt sunk his studs into Jeremie Frimpong's calf. Boniface, who came on with 22 minutes remaining, collected a pass before pivoting on the spot and shooting home to snatch the German champions another late victory, providing a perfect boost ahead of next week's trip to Bayern Munich.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso praised his side's German efficiency after the Bundesliga champions dispatched Dutch side Feyenoord 4-0 in Thursday's Champions League rout. "It may have looked pretty easy, but it's really not," Alonso told reporters after his team cruised to four first-half goals to break the Dutch resistance. He said it took Leverkusen some time to come to terms with Feyenoord's pressing game but after that "the first half was really complete." The German giants were 4-0 up by the half-time whistle, from only five shots on goal.
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands :Germany’s 'Invincibles' Bayer Leverkusen opened their Champions League campaign with a resounding 4-0 away win over Feyenoord on Thursday, after running riot in the first half.
Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen suffered their first Bundesliga defeat since May 2023 as a 3-2 loss at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday snapped their 35-match unbeaten run in the top flight. In a volatile match which saw visiting coach Marco Rose sent to the stands in the first half, Leverkusen jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo. But Kevin Kampl scored for Leipzig against the run of play just before half-time and Lois Openda levelled things up early in the second period.
