Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 21st goal of the season and his fourth in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday as his moment of magic proved decisive in Al Nassr beating Al Fayha 1-0 in an all-Saudi last 16 tie. At the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, the 39-year-old Portuguese star struggled at first to make much headway against a club sitting 14th in the Saudi Pro League. Al Fayha have been only one of two teams in the domestic league to prevent Ronaldo from scoring, and that streak looked like stretching to a third match. Then in the 81st minute, Ronaldo lunged forward and smartly volleyed the ball above the head of the advancing goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic following a quick 1-2 with Marcelo Brozovic.
World number one Iga Swiatek reached the Qatar Open quarter-finals for a third successive year on Wednesday as fellow four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka also made the last eight without hitting a ball. Swiatek, the two-time defending champion at the Gulf event, defeated 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-1, 6-4. The Russian battled bravely, saving four match points in the 10th game of the second set before Swiatek came through. The 22-year-old Pole will face another two-time Doha champion, Victoria Azarenka, in Thursday's quarter-finals. Former world number one Azarenka beat eighth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko 6-0, 6-3 for her third win over the Latvian this year.
In a T20 match, it's the batter and bowlers who takes the cake. While the format started with the scaled titlted towards the batters, slowly the bowlers have also come into their own. In fact, it's the quality bowlers who are most in demand in auctions and drafts. However, the fielders have a major role to play. In a format, where the margin of error is very less, it's the supreme fielding efforts which often makes the difference. The T20 has also seen poor fielding. One such instance happenned during the Bangladesh Premier League match between Comilla Victorians and Chattogram Challengers. Batting first, Comilla Victorians scored 239/3 in 20 overs. During the chase, in the fourth over, Tanzid Hasan was let off after a horrible mix-up between two fielders. While going for the high attempt, none of the fielders called as the ball dropped. The commentator could not believe and said: "That is just poor cricket." A fan's reaction to the dropped chance has gone viral.
