SINGAPORE: Badminton world champion Loh Kean Yew crashed out of the Commonwealth Games men’s singles event on Saturday (Aug 6) after losing to Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the quarter-finals.
On Day 10 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games, the India women's cricket team will square off against Australia in the gold medal match while the women's hockey team will face New Zealand in the bronze medal match. Shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will also play their respective singles semi-finals while the likes of Nitu Ganghas, Amit Panghal, and Nikhat Zareen will have their final bouts at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

A former world champion, Sindhu registered a come-from-behind 19-21 21-14 21-18 win over Goh, ranked 60th, to enter her third successive semifinals at the Commonwealth Games. However, young Aakarshi Kashyap's CWG debut ended with a 10-21 7-21 defeat to Scotland's Kristy Gilmour, a silver and bronze medallist in 2014 and 2018 editions respectively.

Sindhu, a silver medallist at the 2018 edition, expectedly faced no resistance from Uganda's Husina Kobugabe, winning 21-10 21-9 in her pre-quarterfinal match. Srikanth, who had also finished second best at Gold Coast, too didn't break any sweat on his way to a 21-9 21-12 win over Sri Lanka's Dumindu Abeywickrama in the men's singles.
Commonwealth Games on Thursday. While two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu routed Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq 21-4 21-11 in the women's singles first round, Srikanth outclassed Daniel Wanagaliya of Uganda 21-9 21-9 in the men's singles event.
