Indian badminton biggest names—Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Lakshya Sen--suffered a significant blow, falling out of the top 10 in their respective categories in the latest world rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday. Former world No.1 men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have dropped five places in the rankings to 12th. The duo, who were ranked seventh last week, last competed at the Badminton Asia Team Mixed Championships in February. This marks the first time since November 2021 that the pair has fallen outside the top 10, reflecting a turbulent period in their career following their underwhelming performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Lakshya Sen Advances, HS Prannoy Falters In All England Championships 1st Round

India's Lakshya Sen fought his way back to reach the second round of the All England Championships on Tuesday, while compatriot HS Prannoy was eliminated in the opening round of the men's singles competition here. Lakshya, ranked 15th in the world, came from behind to defeat Chinese Taipei's world No. 37, SU Li Yang, with a 13-21, 21-17, 21-15 win in the opening round of the Super 1000 event. The 23-year-old from Almora will face Indonesia's third seed Jonatan Christie next. Lakshya had defeated Christie en route to his fourth place finish at the Paris Olympics last year.

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will be leading India's charge at the 2025 All England Open badminton competition, starting in Birmingham from Tuesday onwards. The currently 15th-ranked Sindhu will be returning to the court for the first time since January's Indonesia Masters tournament, as per Olympics.com. World number 28 Malvika Bansod is India's other challenger in the women's singles competition. Coming to the men's competition, the world number 10 Lakshya Sen is the top-ranked Indian shuttler in the tournament. He could play against the world number 30th HS Prannoy in the quarterfinals given both of them qualify for that stage.

India's HS Prannoy bowed out of the All England Championships on Tuesday, suffering a straight-game defeat to France's Toma Junior Popov in the men's singles opening round. On a comeback trail, Prannoy, a bronze medallist at the 2023 World Championships and Asian Games, fought for 53 minutes before going down 19-21, 16-21 to Popov, who is currently ranked 17th in the world. The 32-year-old, ranked 29th, had his chances in the opening game, leading 6-1 and 15-12, but faltered in the face of the relentless pressure of Popov, who turned the game around from 16-18 to 19-18 before taking the lead.
