Australia's interim coach Andrew McDonald on Wednesday advocated the importance of the IPL, saying the upcoming edition of the lucrative league will be a nice build up for his team as it defends its T20 World Cup title on home soil later this year. IPL 2022: David Warner, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins To Miss Start Of IPL Despite Skipping Limited Overs Series Against Pakistan: Report

Australia's star players, including David Warner, Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins, will miss the start of the IPL despite skipping the limited overs series against Pakistan, which is set to coincide with the lucrative T20 league. Though the BCCI hasn't officially announced the dates of IPL-15, the league is expected to begin in the last week of March. Warner, Hazelwood and Cummins are part of the Test squad for the series in Pakistan, starting March 4-25, but will be skipping the limited overs assignment, beginning March 29.

"...Will Be A Big Test For Him": Mark Waugh On Player Who Can Trouble David Warner In Pakistan

Australia batter David Warner had a decent outing against England in the five-match Ashes Test series earlier this year. He aggregated 273 runs in five matches, averaging just over 34. Warner, however, did face difficulty dealing with England quicks -- Mark Wood in particular. With Australia set to tour Pakistan for the first time in 24 years next month, Former Australia batter Mark Waugh said the veteran opening batter might not have a comfortable outing in the sub-continent nation either. Mark Waugh said tackling Shaheen Afridi "will be a big test" for Warner, especially with the Pakistan pacer's ability to move the ball away from the batter.

PAK vs AUS: David Warner, Pat Cummins Among Stars Rested For Australia White-Ball Pakistan Matches

Batsman David Warner and Test captain Pat Cummins were among the big names left out of Australia's 16-player white-ball squad named Tuesday for fixtures in Pakistan. Australia are taking a full-strength Test squad on their first Pakistan tour in 24 years, but the three subsequent one-day internationals and one T20I match will see many top players rested. Australia's pace attack will be without Test captain Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Watch: How Marnus Labuschagne Is Preparing To Bat On Spin-friendly Pitches

Australia's Marnus Labuschagne shared a video on Twitter where he is seen playing in his home backyard where he recreated a surface akin to spin-driendly pitches in the sub-continent. Labuschange will soon be on the flight to Pakistan, where Australia will be playing a Test series after more than two decades. The video shows a rubber mat with aluminum and metal sheets taped to it that is cut into pieces in order to replicate the cracks that appear on the subcontinent pitches as the game proceeds. "Originally I had bigger sheets on there," Labuschagne told reporters in Brisbane on Monday. Labuschagne also revealed his chat with Steve Smith and the latter's inputs that proved valuable for recreating such a pitch.

AUS vs SL: Kusal Mendis Stars As Sri Lanka Win 5th T20I Against Australia

Kusal Mendis hit an unbeaten match-winning 69 and skipper Dasun Shanaka blasted 35 as Sri Lanka won the fifth and final Twenty20 against Australia by five wickets on Sunday to prevent a series whitewash. The home side won all four previous games, three of them convincingly, and when skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and batted they were eyeing a big total. But they were exposed early on by some impressive Sri Lankan bowling. Australia struggled to 58 for three off 10 overs before late fireworks from Matthew Wade (43 off 27 balls) and Daniel Sams (18 off 15) ensured a competitive 154 for six.
