Team India kick-started the three-match ODI series with a brilliant five-wicket win in the first match on Friday. Opted to bowl first, the hosts restricted Australia at 188 after Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami scalped three wickets each. Later, Team India suffered an early loss of wickets as they were five down with only 83 runs on the board. It was then KL Rahul, who stood up and played an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 91 balls and took the Hardik Pandya-led side across the line, in just 39.5 overs. Rahul's magnificent knock left everyone utterly impressed as the batter was earlier going through a lean patch and had lost his place in the team, after back-to-back failures.

India skipper Rohit Sharma returned to the national squad with the second ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. He had missed the first ODI of the three-match series due to family commitments and this saw Hardik Pandya leading the team in his absence against the Aussies at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday. As Rohit arrived with his India teammates in Vizag ahead of the second ODI, he was greeted by the fans at the airport. One of the fans also received a funny proposal from the India star.

Australian pacer and 'Man of the Match' Mitchell Starc said the early inroads he made into the Indian batting lineup during powerplay made his bowling partners attack more aggressively, resulting in the hosts being bundled out for 117 in just 26 overs during the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. India suffered one of their worst ODI defeats against Australia with the visitors winning the match by 10 wickets to level the series 1-1 after Starc had wiped out the entire top order in powerplay. The left-arm pacer grabbed four wickets in powerplay overs and returned figures of 5/53 for the match as Australia levelled the series 1-1.

Australia skipper Steve Smith and his team did not have a good outing in the first ODI at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Friday as Team India defeated them by 5 wickets in a low-scoring thriller. India's stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game that saw regular captain Rohit Sharma missing out due to family commitments. For Australia, Mitchell Starc shone with an 81-run knock off 65 balls, but other batters failed to replicate him as the guests were bundled out for 188 runs.

It was an unwanted record for Rohit Sharma and Co as it was the quickest any target was chased against India in ODI cricket. The previous record belonged to New Zealand who chased down 93 in 14.4 overs.
