Not Virat Kohli Or Jasprit Bumrah, Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Names Player To Keep An Eye On In BGT

India bowling coach Morne Morkel has picked young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy as the player to "keep an eye" in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The hype around the series between the two Test giants has been sumptuous as the series opener in Perth inches closer with each passing hour. While Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and skipper Rohit Sharma have been tipped to play the deciding role in the series, Morkel threw another name in the fray. "Definitely a guy (Nitish) to keep an eye on in the series," Morkel said during a press conference in Perth before the opening Test on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah Receives 'Kapil Dev' Warning From World Cup Winner: "Captaincy Never..."

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead the Indian team for only the second time in a Test in the series-opener against Australia in Perth. Bumrah will have his task cut out with India captain Rohit Sharma all but out of the game at the Optus Stadium, which gets underway on Friday. Rohit became a father for the second time last week after his wife gave birth to a baby boy. The veteran batter didn't travel with the team to Australia, and has been practising alone in Mumbai to remain in shape.

Yash Dayal Replaces Injured Khaleel Ahmed In India Reserves For Australia Tests

Left-arm seam bowler Yash Dayal has been added to India's reserve pacers' list after Khaleel Ahmed had to be sent back home due to an unspecified niggle. Dayal, who was added in the Test squad during the Bangladesh series, was in South Africa for the T20I series but didn't play a single match. He flew directly to Perth from Johannesburg after Khaleel developed a niggle and was unable to bowl in the nets. The medical team advised the Rajasthan left-armer rest and hence it was decided that Dayal would fly in while Khaleel fly back home.

India vs Australia 1st Test Venue Details: Optus Stadium Pitch Report, Perth Weather Forecast

The Optus Stadium at Perth, the venue of the highly-anticipated first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, has become a subject of intrigue ahead of the clash. With both teams boasting world-class pace and spin options, both teams are finalising their team combinations as per conditions. With their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final spots at stake amid tough competition from Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand, both sides would be aiming to make the best use of Perth's usual fast and bouncy surface. The venue is a pace-dominated venue, with Australian pacers outdoing the visiting pace attacks with their average of 22.04 as compared to 36.53 of visiting pacers. Coming to spinners, the Aussie tweakers have an average of 18.61 as compared to a poor average of 108.50 by visiting spinners.

Jasprit Bumrah "Wanted That Leadership Role": India Bowling Coach's High Praise For 'Captain'

Bowling coach Morne Morkel has branded A-Lister Jasprit Bumrah as a "natural leader" before he walks for the toss to captain India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series opener against Australia in Perth. With Rohit Sharma set to miss the first Test of the highly-anticipated series, Bumrah will take the role of skipper. The 30-year-old was appointed as Bumrah's deputy when the squad was unveiled. When reports started to suggest Rohit being sidelined for the opening Test, Bumrah emerged as the ideal candidate to take up the role. This will be the second instance of Bumrah leading the side following his spell in 2022 against England.

BCCI's Call Mocked By Australia? Star 'Happy' This Player Is Missing From India Ranks

Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood is pretty happy that he will not have to bowl to India Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara in the latest chapter of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, beginning here on Friday. The Indian team has moved on from the likes of Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, both of whom played a major hand in ensuring the visitors' back-to-back win Down Under four years ago. Pujara was the rock of Indian batting on the previous two tours Down Under. He faced the maximum numbers of balls to wear down Australia's formidable pace attack. The out-of-favour batter was the leading run-getter in the 2018-19 series with 521 runs off 1258 balls and was once again the backbone of Indian batting three years later when he accumulated 271 runs off 928 balls.

India's XI vs Australia All Set? No Place For Ravindra Jadeja, Says Report. There's A Surprise

Only two days remain for the first India vs Australia Test in Perth. It is all but certain that Rohit Sharma will not lead the side as he is in India for personal reasons. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in his place. According to a report in Indian Express, the Gautam Gambhir-coached side will go with only one spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin. It is also likely to go with three pacers and a fast bowling all rounder in Nitish Reddy, who has not yet played Tests for India.

Gautam Gambhir's Tenure 'Could Be Shorter' Than Greg Chappell's: India Coach Sent Blunt Message Ahead Of BGT

The pre-departure press conference of Indian cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir, ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, was an aggressive one. Gambhir was not happy with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting's comments on Virat Kohli's form. Then, Ponting called Gambhir a 'prickly character'. It was the perfect spicy build-up that the India vs Australia series needed. On Sky Sports, former England captain Mike Atherton asked Simon Doull about Gautam Gambhir's recent remark about Ricky Ponting. The former New Zealand pacer commented that Gambhir's tenure as India coach could be shorter that Greg Chappell. The former Australia player had a tumultuous time at the helm of the Indian cricket team from mid-2005 till early 2007.
