PARIS :French and Australian officials on Tuesday played down the risk of a COVID cluster at the Paris Olympics after the Australia team was the first to report that one of its athletes, a water polo player, had tested positive and been isolated.
A 117-member strong Indian contingent has reached France to begin their quest of medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The beds, made of cardboard, were reportedly introduced in an attempt by the organisers to prevent intimacy between athletes during their stay in the Olympic Games village. While there has been criticism of the move in the past, with athletes suggesting that their comfort has been compromised by installing fragile beds in their rooms. But, the move was persisted with by the organisers of the Paris Games too.

President Emmanuel Macron said France was ready to host the Paris Olympics as he visited the Athletes' Village on Monday, four days before the Games begin. The Games return to the French capital for the first time since 1924, largely using temporary venues constructed in the centre of the city. "We are ready and we will be ready throughout the Games," Macron said. "We have been working on these Games for years now and we are at the start of a decisive week which on Friday will see the opening ceremony and then the Olympiad which will be held in Paris, 100 years since the last one."
Indian contingent will kickstart its Paris Olympics journey from July 25 onwards, with 117 athletes set to feature in 69 medal events across 16 sports. A 29-member athletics team led by Neeraj Chopra will represent a large chunk of the contingent that will be travelling to France for the Olympics. There will also be a 21-member-strong shooting contingent, which will be the second-largest team sent by India for any sport at Paris 2024. This is the biggest shooting team India has sent in its Olympic history, with 15 shooters sent during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics being in second place, as per Olympics.com.
Unarmed combat training, endurance runs and boat pulling were some of the elements of a first-ever "transformative training camp" that the national women's hockey team underwent recently at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), aimed at making the side mentally stronger, and more disciplined. The unique camp was held at the INA in Kannur, Kerala, from July 15 to 21. The women's hockey team is currently in a rebuilding phase after the heartbreak of failing to qualify for this month's Paris Olympics. "This transformative camp, conducted in the disciplined environment of the INA, aimed to enhance the team's skills and foster a spirit of unity and resilience," stated a press release from Hockey India.
