India can clinch 10 medals including five golds in athletics at the Paralympics starting on Wednesday, reckoned para athletics head coach Satyanarayana, adding that the aim will be to better their performances from the last edition. Satyanarayana said the Indian athletes have trained intensely for the Paris Para Games as an overall contingent of 84 athletes — 52 men and 32 women — will take part in the event. It will also be India's largest contingent ever at the Paralympics.
Rakshitha Raju, a visually impaired athlete from Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, has been selected for the Paralympics 2024. She will be competing in the Women's 1500m Running T-11 Category, making history as the first Indian female athlete to compete in this category in the Paralympic Games. Gout Gout, a 16-year-old sprinter, left spectators stunned after running 100 metres in just 10.2 seconds at this year's Queensland Athletics Championships in Australia. Though he missed the 100m world record of 9.58 seconds, set by legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, by some margin, it's a great feat considering the Gout's age. Gout, born in Australia to Sudanese parents, spent the first 40 metres in line with his fellow sprinters. However, he finished the race around 10 yards in front of the second fastest sprinter, covering the remaining 60 metres in full-throttle. Fans were left awestruck as a video of Gout's incredible sprint surfaced on social media.
