Asia Cup 2023 - Super Four, Final Matches To Stay In Colombo: Report

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Tuesday decided to keep the Asia Cup Super 4 and final matches in Colombo itself as the weather in the Sri Lankan capital has shown signs of improvement. It has been speculated over the last few days that the Super 4 and final games of the Asia Cup could be shifted to Hambantota after heavy rains lashed Colombo. The PTI has been informed that the ACC held parleys with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), hosts Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the official broadcaster before arriving at the decision to keep the matches in Colombo itself.

"Repeatedly Pointed Out Rains...": Najam Sethi Lashes Out At BCCI For Ignoring His Asia Cup Pleas

Team India qualified for the Super 4 stage of the ongoing Asia Cup after they defeated Nepal by 10 wickets (DLS method) on Monday. After coming a washed out clash against Pakistan on Saturday, the Rohit Sharma-led side once again had to face the wrath of the weather as rain played a spoilsport. However, this time the result ended in the favour of Team India as they chased down the revised target of 145 runs in 20.1 overs. The regular rainfall in Sri Lanka has been topic of discussion as it has been affecting the match results.

BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar Provides New Update On KL Rahul's Fitness

KL Rahul's presence gives India's World Cup squad "the best balance" as he has met all the fitness parameters, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said on Tuesday, clearing the air of uncertainty surrounding the wicketkeeper-batter. Rahul last played for India in an ODI against Australia at Chennai earlier this march. Agarkar expressed satisfaction over the fitness levels of Rahul and said the 31-year-old has overcome his niggle that delayed his comeback in the ongoing Asia Cup. "KL (Rahul) is looking good. We feel this gives us the best balance to try and do well. KL was part of the camp in Bangalore, and he looked really good there and has got over his niggle.

"Wouldn't Point A Finger At Him": Sunil Gavaskar's Massive Verdict On Ishan Kishan

The Indian cricket team was in deep trouble after losing four wickets within the first 15 overs against Pakistan but Ishan Kishan stitched together a brilliant partnership with Hardik Pandya to steady the innings during the Asia Cup 2023 match. A lot of speculation shrouded Kishan's spot in the team but his 81-ball-82 was a statement of intent from the left-hander who will be competing with KL Rahul for a position in the side. Legendary India skipper Sunil Gavaskar was impressed with Kishan's innings and he went on to say that no one can point a finger at him after the knock against Pakistan.

"Concerns Related To Security, Economic Situation...": Jay Shah On Why Asia Cup Was Moved Out Of Pakistan

The Asia Cup 2023 was supposed to take place in Pakistan but the BCCI was not in favour of the arrangement and after extensive talks, a hybrid model was agreed upon where Pakistan would host four matches and nine matches (including all India matches) were to be held in Sri Lanka. However, with rain playing spoilsport in a number of matches taking place in Sri Lanka, the organisers have come under criticism for moving the tournament from Pakistan. Former Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Najam Sethi also lashed out at BCCI secretary Jay Shah for ignoring his request to host the matches in UAE.

Colombo's Asia Cup Matches Likely To Be Shifted To Hambantota

The Super Four games and the final of the Asia Cup are likely to be shifted from Colombo to the deep southern district of Hambantota, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources said on Tuesday. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to make an announcement later in the day. The decision has been made in view of the heavy rains in the capital city as well as in the central town of Kandy. Both of India's matches have been affected by rain. The much anticipated India-Pakistan clash at the Pallekele stadium in Kandy was called off after one innings due to heavy downpour on Saturday, while India's match against Nepal on Monday was also truncated due to rain.
