Mehuli, who won a gold and silver in the team event in 10m Air Rifle Mixed final at the ongoing World Cup in Changwon, South Korea, suffered a serious setback some years back due to a freak accident and battled for years to get her career back on track. In 2015, at a training session at the Serampore Rifle Club in West Bengal, she misfired a shot, which hit one of the employees in the leg. Mehuli was suspended by the federation and wasn't able to take part in competitive shooting for some years after that, which pushed her into depression.

The Indian women's recurve team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur settled for a silver medal after the trio's fairytale run was halted by Chinese Taipei in a one-sided final at the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris on Sunday. India concluded their campaign with one gold and two silver medals -- two of them coming in the compound section. The women's recurve team, who bagged a lowly 13th seed after the trio slipped out of top-30 in their individual qualification rounds, failed to make much of an impact and lost to Chinese Taipei 5-1 (53-56 56-56 53-56) in straight sets.

Riding on a spectacular start, the Indians withered late resistance from the French pair of Jean Boulch and 48-year-old Olympic medallist Sophie Dodemont to seal the contest 152-149, a first-ever World Cup gold for India in the compound mixed team event. The gold also opened the account of Indian archers, who have assured a second medal in the women's recurve team event where the trio of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur will fight for the yellow metal on Sunday.
Currently, the Olympics only have recurve events in the sport. The high-scoring compound events which are played indoors as well as outdoors, are part of sports programmes of the Asian Games, European Games, Pan American Games, World Games and World University Games but not the Olympics.
A day after Deepika Kumari and Co. cruised into the final of recurve women's team event to confirm their first medal of the meet, the compound mixed pair of Verma and Jyothi followed suit, defeating Estonia's Robin Jaatma and Lisell Jaatma 156-151 in a lopsided semi-final. The Indian duo will face fifth seed France in the compound mixed team final on Saturday.
