England were reeling at 112/5 at one stage before Root led the recovery on Day 1, stitching crucial partnerships with Jonny Bairstow (38), Ben Foakes (47) and Ollie Robinson (58). India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey on Friday said the pitch at the JSCA Sports Complex was not a rank turner but they did not expect to play so slow on the second day itself. RP Singh and Chopra felt that Rohit underbowled left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the opening day. Kuldeep bowled just 10 overs on Day 1, and had to wait until the 42nd over to get his chance. Despite failing to bag a wicket, Kuldeep was India's second most economical bowler at the JSCA Stadium after Ravindra Jadeja.
