Virat Kohli Replicates Sunil Gavaskar's Impressive Feat With Long-Awaited Test Ton

Virat Kohli finally ended his century drought with a brilliant ton against Australia on Day 4 of the fourth Test match in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Kohli, whose last Test century came way back in 2019, looked completely at ease against the Aussie bowlers and ended up scoring a well-deserved ton in 241 deliveries. With this century, Kohli ended up replicating a similar feat that legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar achieved around 40 years ago. This was Kohli's 50th Test match at home and he was able to score a century to celebrate the momentous occasion. Back in 1983, Gavaskar also scored a gritty hundred when he played his 50th Test match at home against West Indies in Delhi.

Nathan Lyon Creates History, Breaks 41-Year-Old Record Against India In 4th Test

India rode Virat Kohli's brilliant century and Axar Patel's equally effective supporting act to take control on Day 4 of the fourth Test match against Australia on Sunday. While the Indian batsmen looking quite comfortable against the Australia bowlers, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon was able to claim a massive milestone. With the dismissal of KS Bharat, Lyon became the highest overseas wicket-taker in Test matches on Indian soil. He currently has 55 wickets from 11 matches in India and he surpassed the record held by former England spinner Derek Underwood. Underwood had 54 wickets against India in away matches from 16 games with best figures of 5 for 84.

"It's Perform Or Perish": Ravichandran Ashwin's Response To Question On Cameron Green Is Harsh Reality

Ravichandran Ashwin praised centurion Cameron Green and spoke about how the Australian or English cricket system can nurture a talent like him. Green, who is playing his 20th Test, scored 114 off 170 balls and his innings was no less significant than Usman Khawaja's 180 that took Australia to a solid first innings score of 480 on the second day of the fourth Test against India on Friday. "I hope you tuned into the IPL auction and hope you saw how Indian cricket fraternity rates Cameron Green," he answered to a question from one of the Australian scribes.

India vs Australia - "There's Still A Result": Nathan Lyon's Huge Prediction For Ahmedabad Test

Nathan Lyon may have got just a single wicket after sending down 30-odd overs on the day but he feels that his effort on Saturday during India's first innings was way better than his 11-wicket match haul in Indore on a track designed for spinners. India finished the third day at 289 for 3 in reply to Australia's 480 on a good batting deck. "It's more of a patient game. When the pitch is like Indore... I felt like I bowled better today than what I did in Indore. And it's just coming down to doing your basics well enough for long enough," Lyon said. For him, Tests like these are decided in the last half an hour and right now it is on even keel.

Sunil Gavaskar Expects Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara To " Break A Few Things". Here's Why

After Australia posted a massive total of 480 in the first innings, Shubman Gill led India's charge with a century on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma (35) and Cheteshwar Pujara (42) missed out on opportunities to notch up big scores. While Rohit threw away his wicket after a lapse in concentration, Pujara too failed to capitalise on his good start. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who is part of the commentary team for the ongoing series, shared his views on both the players.

Watch: Virat Kohli's Expression While Umpire Checks For Short Run Goes Viral

It was a relief for Virat Kohli as he scored his first Test fifty in more than 14 months on Day 3 of the fourth Test encounter between India and Australia in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
