Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his ascent in the ICC Test rankings, rising 11 places to 63rd while his skipper Rohit Sharma inched up to ninth among batters in the latest list released on Wednesday. Scores of 57 and 38 in the drawn second Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain have catapulted 21-year-old Jaiswal in the batters list as he now has 466 points. Rohit, who had scores of 80 and 57 in second Test, continued to remain the highest-ranked Indian Test batter. He has 759 point and is tied on the ninth place with his Sri Lankan counter part Dimuth Karunaratne.

One of the finest Indian batters, especially in overseas conditions, Ajinkya Rahane marked his Test return with a bang, scoring curcial runs for the national team in the World Test Championship final. Though India lost the title to Australia, Rahane's performances earned him a call-up for the West Indies tour, that too in the role of 'vice-captain', a designation he had lost roughly a year ago. But, with Rahane failing to fire in the two Tests against West Indies, questions arise on the selection committee's decision to hand him the team's vice-captaincy.

Suryakumar Yadav will be aiming to improve his 50-over credentials while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are likely to audition for the wicketkeeper's slot when India play a three-match ODI series against the West Indies, beginning on Thursday. India will use the series against the West Indies to test out a few players to finalise their combinations ahead of the Asia Cup, which will precede the ODI World Cup at home in October-November.
