"It Was Mayhem": Ex-Australia Star's Damning Analysis Of Indore Pitch For Third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test

Former Australia opener Mark Waugh was extremely critical of the pitch in Indore after 14 wickets fell on Day 1 of the third Test encounter between India and Australia on Wednesday. The pitch produced uneven bounce for the players and most of the batters were stunned by the amount of spin on offer for the Aussie bowlers. India were bundled out for just 109 and in response, Australia started well but ended up losing four wickets before the end of day's play. "It was mayhem. The pitch was not up to test standard, I think that's a fair thing to say," Mark Waugh told Fox Sports after the day ended.

India vs Australia, 3rd Test Day 2: Nathan Lyon Grabs Eight Wickets As India Stare At Defeat

Nathan Lyon grabbed eight wickets as India were bundled for 163 in 60.3 overs in the second innings on day two of the third Test against Australia in Indore on Thursday. The hosts are staring at a big defeat as Steve Smith's side has been set a target of just 76 runs to win the Test and secure a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Lyon spun a web around India batters, returning figures of 23.3-1-64-8. Cheteshwar Pujara batted resolutely but fell after making 59 runs. The veteran batter's departure, with Smith taking a blinder of a catch at leg slip off the bowling of Lyon, virtually ended India's resistance.Umesh Yadav lasted just two balls, caught by Cameron Green in the deep for a duck as India's batting went down without a whimper.

Watch: Steve Smith Pulls Off One-Handed Stunner To Dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara looked in tremendous form and it took a special effort from Steve Smith at leg slip to end his gritty innings on Day 2 of the third Test encounter between India and Australia in Indore on Thursday. Pujara looked confident on 59 and it looked like the veteran batter will be able to give India a good lead against Australia. However, Lyon pitched the delivery outside the leg stump and in an attempt to guide it towards fine leg, Pujara ended up edging it straight towards Smith. The Australia skipper had a slow start but was ultimately able to pull off a perfect catch by diving almost full length. This was the 13th time when Lyon dismissed Pujara in Test cricket – the most among the Indian top-order batters.

Watch: 'Dinesh Nostradamus Karthik' - Indian Cricketer Predicts Umesh Yadav's Six On-Air, Co-Commentators In Disbelief

India captain Rohit Sharma's decision to bat against Australia in the ongoing third Test in Indore didn't go as planned as the hosts were bowled out for a paltry total of 109 in the first innings. At one stage, it seemed that Team India might not cross the 100-run mark, after having been reduced to 88/8. However, pacer Umesh Yadav, who was recalled to the side for the match, had different ideas as he played an entertaining cameo of 17 off just 13 deliveries, slamming two sixes and a four.

Cheteshwar Pujara 'Jumpy', Shreyas Iyer 'Panicker': Australia Great's Brutal Take

India captain Rohit Sharma's decision to bat against Australia in the ongoing third Test in Indore didn't go as planned as the hosts were bowled out for a paltry total of 109 in the first innings. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as the 26-year-old bagged his maiden Test five-for. However, former Australia captain Ian Chappell criticised the Indian batters, particularly Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer, for "Australian-type batting" on the opening day in Indore.

"Said It Would Be Difficult...": Ex-Pakistan Star's U-Turn On Virat Kohli's Comeback

Regarded by many as the greatest batter of his generation, Virat Kohli had a rough patch with the bat for the majority of 2022. The 34-year-old hadn't scored an international century in nearly three years. The former India captain also had low returns with the bat during last season's Indian Premier League. Amid his struggles with the bat, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif had suggested that once Kohli loses his magic touch, it would be difficult for him to regain his form.

The pace-spin combination of Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin ran through the Australian batting line-up as India clawed their way back into the third Test in Indore on Thursday. After a rather quiet first hour, when only 30 runs were scored in 16 overs without any wicket, India bowled Australia out 197 as the visitors lost their last six wickets for just 11 runs after starting the day at 156 for four.

How Australia Star Matthew Kuhnemann Tricked India, Learning From Ravindra Jadeja's Tropes

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann was the star of the show as Australia rolled over India for a paltry total of 109 on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test in Indore. The Queenslander bagged his maiden five-wicket haul as Australia managed to take a 47-run lead on the opening day at the Holkar Stadium. The 26-year-old later revealed that he had closely observed how Jadeja approaches his bowling on rank turners, which massively helped his case on Day 1 in Indore.
