Billie Jean King Cup: India Lose 1-2 To New Zealand, Miss Out On Historic Play-Offs Berth

Ankita Raina could not win the crucial second singles and later lost the decisive doubles match with partner Prarthana Thombare as a historic play-offs place slipped out of India's grasp after a 1-2 defeat to New Zealand in the Billie Jean King Cup in Changsha on Saturday. India remained in Asia/Oceania Group I by finishing third in the tournament. Rutuja Bhosale put India ahead with her 6-2 7-6(5) win over Monique Barry in the opening singles. Raina needed to win the next match against world number 169 Lulu Sun but was outgunned 2-6 0-6. A victory in that match would have earned India a place in the play-offs for the first time.

India Lose Yet Again To Australia, This Time 1-3 In 4th Hockey Test

India continued their dismal show in the crucial tour Down Under, losing 1-3 against Australia to suffer their fourth consecutive defeat in the five-match men's hockey Test series, on Friday. Contrary to the final result, it was a much-improved performance from the Indians but the Kookaburras were simply too strong. All the four goals in the match, which started 40 minutes late due to lightning, came from penalty corners. India took the lead in the 12th minute through skipper Harmanpreet Singh but Jeremy Hayward's (19th, 47th) brace and Jack Welch (54th) strike handed Australia yet another win in the series.

Sidney Crosby hits 1,000 assists, keeps Penguins surging - ESPN

PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby is too consumed with the moment to think about the history he's making. Too focused on trying to will the Pittsburgh Penguins into a playoff berth that seemed unlikely a month ago to consider the weight of all that he's done.

'I'm not out of it' - Mixed emotions for Rory McIlroy after Day 1

Rory McIlroy had mixed emotions after carding a one-under-par 71 on a windswept opening day of the 88th Masters. McIlroy, carded four birdies and three bogeys in his lowest opening round since 2018, but ended the day five shots behind playing partner Scottie Scheffler and six adrift of clubhouse leader Bryson DeChambeau. "It's satisfying in one sense because it's a decent start compared to the way I've played here recently, but I felt like it could have been two or three better," McIlroy, who is making his 10th attempt to win a green jacket and complete the career grand slam, said. "I think after the slow start making a few birdies around the turn was good. A little wasteful coming in. I had a good chance for birdie on 15 in the middle of the fairway and didn't take that. "Missed a shortish one on 16 and then the bogey on 17. But overall still not a bad score, and obviously a lot of golf left to play. "I'm definitely not out of the tournament and not chasing anything tomorrow. I'm playing with Scottie so can keep an eye on what he's doing and I'm looking forward to getting back out there. "If you look at Scottie compared to the rest of the field, the amount of bogey-free rounds he shoots is phenomenal, and that's the secret to winning major championships. "I made three bogeys today, which is fine out there in these conditions, but just need to tidy it up a little bit to try to keep up with him."
