Day 1 Of First Test Between India And New Zealand Called Off Due To Rain

Unrelenting rain wiped out play on day one of the opening Test between India and New Zealand on Wednesday. The play was called off at 2.34 PM as heavy rain lashed the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after relenting for about half an hour earlier. The match officials came out to inspect the pitch around 2 PM after outfield and first layer of covers were removed around 1.50 PM. But there were large damp areas on either side of the pitch as hessians were brought out in a last-ditch attempt to get some game time. However, it was a futile effort as extensive damage was already done by rains of varying intensity from early morning.

Team India managed to draw out a victory inside two days as they took on Bangladesh in the final Test of the series in Kanpur. As India prepared to take on New Zealand in Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium, starting Wednesday, the first day produced a disappointing picture, with rain washing out the first session. However, unlike the situation was Kanpur, Bengaluru's excellent drainage system has fans' hopes high.

India broke the record for the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Tests and on Tuesday, they bowled out Bangladesh for the second time in the match. Tamim praised the approach and grit shown by the Indian cricket team before adding that such a tactic is only possible if there if full support from the coach and the captain.
