Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja has given a strong reaction to a recent statement made by opening batter Ahmed Shehzad. The player has been out of favour for a long period now, and way back in 2016, then coach Waqar Younis had advised him to return to domestic cricket. The 30-year-old Shehzad reacted to the report saying it dented his career. Shehzad has played 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 59 T20Is. He last played for the national team in October, 2019 in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Lahore.
Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis formed one of the greatest bowling combinations to ever play the sport and the opposition batters always had to be at their best whenever they came up against this deadly bowling duo. Both had the ability to make the ball talk -- be it with the new ball or with the old ball. However, there was always this talk of the pair not getting along with each other. Akram has now opened up on his equation with Waqar, admitting that both of them had their differences but there was always a healthy competition.
Pakistan opening batter Ahmed Shehzad has said that senior players in the side don't get happy "seeing someone succeed". He also highlighted the examples of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to state his point, and he even went on to say that Kohli became such a big name as he had the support of Dhoni. Shehzad has been out of favour for a long period now, and way back in 2016, then coach Waqar Younis had advised him to return to domestic cricket.
Former Pakistan national cricket team's coach Mickey Arthur has responded to out of favour batter Umar Akmal's strong comments against him. The two had a famous fall out when Arthur was still the coach of the side. Akmal has not represented the country since 2019. Responding to a tweet which quoted Akmal as alleging that Arthur had spoiled his career, the Australian shot back, "Take a look in the mirror Umar!!".
Umran Malik grabbed a lot of eyeballs during the recently-concluded IPL 2022 and went on to take 22 wickets for SunRisers Hyderabad in 14 games, including a fifer against Gujarat Titans. The pacer bowled consistently in the range of 150kmph and even bowled the second-fastest delivery of the season, at a speed of 157kmph. The bowler from Jammu has been named in India's squad for the upcoming five-match series against South Africa, beginning Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Former Australia pacer Brett Lee on Monday praised SunRisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik and said he reminds him of Waqar Younis. Umran Malik had a terrific run in IPL 2022 where he played 14 matches and scalped 22 wickets at an average of 20.18 and an economy of 9.03. "I am a big fan. I think Umran Malik has got a lot of pace to burn. He is a competitor, a top guy, who runs in like a lot of fast bowlers in the past. Waqar Younis is the person who comes to mind," Brett Lee told ANI.
