West Indies and Sri Lanka, the two former ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy winning sides, failed to make the cut for the eight-team event being played in Pakistan and Dubai. "I'm just hoping that my West Indies team can take a leaf out of these guys' book, because there is a passion and energy that the Afghanis have brought to the game," Richards, who is the governing council member of the International Masters League, told media on Sunday.
Star India batter Virat Kohli on Saturday achieved yet another milestone in his illustrious career when he took the field against Australia on Day 1 of the 3rd Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Kohli became only the second player to feature in 100 or more international games against Australia, joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list. In his 24-year-long career, Tendulkar played 110 matches against Australia. As far as Kohli's record against Australia is concerned, he has played 28 Tests, 49 ODIs and 23 T20Is, scoring scored 5326 runs in 117 innings at an average of 50.24 including 17 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
Former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has named Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni as best captains in Test and white-ball formats respectively. Kohli had led India in 68 Tests and guided them to 40 wins with 11 draws and 17 losses. He is still the most successful captain of the format for India with a 58.82 win percentage in his tenure. Under his leadership, India maintained the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for a record 42 months. On the other hand, Dhoni donned the captain's hat in 200 ODIs from 2007 to 2018 and led the side to 110 victories including the World Cup title in 2011. He had a record 55 per cent win record in the format, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin's record of 51.72 win percentage.
Indian cricket team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again impressed as the youngster achieved a historic first during Day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday. Jaiswal remained resilient at one end while India kept losing wickets and was able to slam a gritty half-century against an impressive bowling attack. Thanks to the half-century, Jaiswal became the first batter in the 147-year history of Test cricket to score more than 750 runs in his first 10 innings at home. The record previously belonged to George Headley of West Indies who slammed 747 back in 1935.
Viv Richards and Carl Hooper has demanded an apology from Brian Lara over claims made by the legendary West Indies batter in his book "Lara: The England Chronicles". Lara claimed that Richard used to intimidate players in the West Indies cricket team and he would make him cry every few weeks. He further claimed that Viv also made Hooper cry "once a week". However, Richards and Hooper have come up a joint statement regarding the things written in Lara's book. The statement stated that the two former cricketers are disappointed at the “gross misrepresentations” in the book and it further alleged that they “distort the “reality” of the relationship they have off the field.
