Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Faf du Plessis as captain ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) season. The former South Africa skipper is replacing Virat Kohli as captain of the team, with the latter having stepped down from the role after the IPL 2021 season. South Africa batter Du Plessis was acquired by RCB for Rs 7 crore in the IPL 2022 auction last month. The Proteas star represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last season and was a crucial member as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.

Interestingly, the last time Kohli reached a three-figure mark, it was a 'Pink Ball' game in which India thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in Kolkata, back in November 2019. He had scored 136 back then. The former India skipper has taken strike in 28 innings since then but a Test hundred has remained elusive. The 33-year-old has got a 50-plus score only six times with highest being a knock of 79 against South Africa in Cape Town in January this year.

Having thrashed the visitors by an innings and 222 runs in the opening Test in Mohali, India will be confident going into the match in Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma-led India dominated with both bat and ball in the first Test last week, finishing it in just three days, and the skipper could be tempted to retain the same line-up. Batting first, India rode on Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 175 to declare their innings at 574/8. In response Jadeja starred with the ball too, picking up five wickets in the first innings and four wickets in the second to help India seal victory. During the first Test, Ravichandran Ashwin went past Kapil Dev in the list of highest Indian wicket-takers in Tests while Virat Kohli played his 100th Test match.

Axar Patel has been added to India squad for the second Test against Sri Lankaset to be played in Bengaluru from March 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a media release. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Axar Patel to India's squad for the second Paytm Test to be played from 12-16th March in Bengaluru. The all-rounder has completed his rehab and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team," the statement said. According to the Indian board, Axar is fit after the completion of his "rehab" as he replaces Kuldeep Yadav in the squad.
