Indian cricket's crown jewel, the IPL, is back home: bigger, better and longer. It will be the first time since 2011 that 10 teams be fighting it out for the most coveted T20 trophy in world cricket. Two new entrants, Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans, fetching a combined price of approximately USD 1.7 billion shows that brand IPL keeps getting bigger. It took 14 years but the league has now well and truly gone global. The owners of the iconic Manchester Untied also wanted a slice of the IPL pie but lost to the RPSG Group and Britain-based CVC group on the bidding table.
Former India captain MS Dhoni on Thursday stepped down as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the start of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The announcement came as a shock to many and the cricketing fraternity has been paying its tributes to the veteran wicketkeeper-batter. Newly-appointed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, who was part of CSK squad during their title-winning campaign last season, also shared his views on playing under Dhoni.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli feels MS Dhoni's "legendary" tenure as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will never be forgotten by the fans. Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of CSK to Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the much-awaited season of IPL 2022. Kohli on Thursday shared a touching picture with Dhoni on KOO to pay tributes to the legendary skipper.
As MS Dhoni stepped down as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, his former India teammate Virat Kohli shared an emotional message for him. Kohli and Dhoni are known to share a close bond and the former congratulated the iconic wicketkeeper-batter for a great stint as captain, during which he led CSK to four Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. "Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget," Kohli wrote in his tweet. "Respect always," he added, with red and yellow heart emojis.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is upon us and all eyes would be on the batters who would look to set the stage on fire and win that Orange Cap. This particular accolade is given to the batter who manages to score the most number of runs in the entire IPL edition. From Shaun Marsh in the inaugural season to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the last edition, let us have a look on who all have won the Orange Cap in the past seasons of the tournament.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri thinks Virat Kohli has taken a "smart decision" by giving up captaincy from all forms of cricket, paving the way to express himself better in the upcoming Indian Premier League. Shastri, who witnessed Kohli's leadership from close quarters during his stint as India coach, however, also feels the 33-year-old star batter could have continued as the captain in Test cricket. "I think this (giving up captaincy) could be a blessing in disguise, to be honest. The pressures of captaincy off his shoulders, the expectations that come with being captain no longer there, he can go out, express himself, play freely, and I think he'll look to do just that," Shastri said.
