Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan feels star India batter Virat Kohli can regain his lost form during the upcoming Asia Cup. Kohli, who has not scored a century in nearly three years, has struggled to score runs of late. The former India captain was rested for the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe, respectively. Ahead of India's opening game against arch-rivals Pakistan, Younis said that Kohli should go back to his basics and play for the team, instead of thinking about the future.
Ahead of the India-Pakistan much-anticipated clash in the Asia Cup 2022, players from both camps have been seen interacting with each other during training in Dubai. Virat Kohli, who has not scored a century for more than 1,000 days, is the talk of the town, and everyone is waiting to see how the ace batter performs after being rested for the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. Shaheen Shah Afridi was seen interacting with Kohli, where he told the batter that he is praying for his comeback.
When India takes the field to play arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday to start their Asia Cup 2022 campaign, star batter Virat Kohli will represent the nation in his 100th T20I match and will also become the first player in history to play a hundred matches for India in all formats of the game. Being able to represent the country in 100 matches in each format is proof of Virat's longevity in the game since his international debut in 2008, his consistency and the unwavering faith his side has shown in him despite various ups and downs in his decorated career.
Star India batter Virat Kohli has not scored an international ton for more than 1,000 days and the talk surrounding his form is continuing to rise by the minute. The batter was not able to even register a fifty on the tour of England and he was then rested for the limited-overs series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. And now in an interview with broadcaster Star Sports, Kohli opened up on why he needed to have a break and how he was trying to fake his intensity.
Afghanistan star all-rounder Rashid Khan hailed India batter Suryakumar Yadav for his versatility. Suryakumar has been in excellent form with the bat, which has seen him rise to the second spot in the latest ICC men's T20I rankings, a list which is currently led by Pakistan captain Babar Azam. India will start their campaign in the multi-nation tournament on August 28 against their arch-rivals Pakistan in a Group A fixtures and the 31-year-old batter is expected to play a huge role if India are to win the tournament.
With multiple captains this year, head coach had to attend selection meetings, take all tough calls and scramble to put together a settled combination for the Asia Cup in UAE and T20 World Cup in Australia.DUBAI: For a man who emphasizes on ‘process’ more than results, Rahul Dravid’s journey as Team India’s head coach, leading to the T20 World Cup, has been put to test. When he took over from Ravi Shastri after the T20 World Cup debacle, India aimed at playing a specific style of cricket, besides having a stable core for the playing XI. Even as Rohit Sharma assumed all-format captaincy by March, Dravid remained the captain of the ship all through. Unavailability of top players prompted India to field seven captains across formats in the last eight months. For a man who has forever harped on the need for consistency, Dravid’s journey as Team India coach has ironically been a topsy turvy one. Unlike the preceding team management, when then captain Virat Kohli called the shots with Shastri majorly working on executing the plans and managing the players, Dravid has been in the driver’s seat by default. From attending selection meetings to managing the workload of his marquee players, ‘the wall’ of Indian cricket has been enduring the roughest of environments. The results in bilateral T20I cricket point at India’s supremacy in the format. Yet, one can’t dismiss the underlying anxiety over the team composition as the T20 World Cup draws closer. Besides the regular overwhelming hype around the India-Pakistan matches, the Asia Cup here is significant for Team India to finally settle down with a set of players.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Friday said struggling batting maestro Virat Kohli needs to score runs not only for India but "for himself" too. In the Asia Cup starting in the UAE on Saturday, Kohli will resume the quest to score his first international hundred since 2019, having failed in all his previous attempts. "He needs to score runs not only for India but for himself. Hopefully it will be a good season for him. We all are confident that he'll come back," Ganguly said during an interaction.
