Swiatek upset by Garcia in Warsaw quarter-finals
French Open champion Swiatek had not lost on clay in over a year before going down 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 to the 45th-ranked Garcia. Swiatek was 18-0 on clay this season, winning titles at Stuttgart, Rome and Roland Garros, and had only dropped two sets on the surface in 2022.

Certainly that was the case with Iga Swiatek’s 37-match unbeaten run, the longest on the WTA Tour this century, which started against Viktorija Golubic in Doha in February and ended in surprisingly one-sided fashion against Alize Cornet at Wimbledon on July 2. Now Swiatek is starting again, returning to action at the Poland Open in Warsaw this week, hoping to spark another streak ahead of the North American swing.
