Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli had high hopes riding on him when he walked out to open the batting alongside skipper Faf du Plessis in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals of ongoing IPL 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the opening over bowled by Trent Boult, Kohli whipped the ball off his pads for a six over deep-square leg and it looked like the batter was in the zone. However, in the very next over, the 33-year-old was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna after scoring just 7 runs. The dismissal was a worrying sign as it saw the RCB batter chasing a short and wide delivery, to hand a simple catch to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.

And that could have the case when a high-flying Jos Buttler edged a Harshal Patel delivery in the 11th over of Rajasthan Royals' chase, offering a simple catch to Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. Inexplicably, though, Karthik failed to take the regulation catch with Buttler batting on 66 at the time. Virat Kohli has made "more mistakes in one IPL season" than he has in his entire 14-year international career, feels Virender Sehwag, who is seeing "different version" of the former India captain than what one is normally used to. Kohli, who hasn't scored an international hundred for more than two-and-half years, is enduring his worst slump, having scored 341 runs in 16 IPL games at a below-par average of 22.73 and two half-centuries. In fact, he opened the innings in most games. "This is not the Virat Kohli that we know. This is a different Virat Kohli playing this season. Otherwise the number of mistakes that he has committed this season, he hasn't done it in his entire career," Sehwag told Cricbuzz. Sehwag, one of India's greatest match-winners during his prime, however empathised with Kohli as he feels that India's No.1 batter has got out in all possible manners in his desperate bid to try out different tactics. "It can happen when you are not scoring runs. You try looking at various options to get out of bad patch and that leads you to getting dismissed in various ways. This season, Kohli has been out in all possible ways that one can think of," the man with 17,000 plus international runs across formats, added.

Early on in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Qualifier 2 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, an enthusiastic fan got past security and ran onto the pitch and got right up to Virat Kohli at the striker's end. The fan went up to Kohli and quickly ran back, jumping and throwing his fists in the air in jubilation. The incident comes after a pitch invader was carried off by a policeman on his shoulders in RCB's Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants.

Virat Kohli in the second Indian Premier League qualifier on Friday. Kohli was at the crease after Rajasthan Royals invited Bangalore to bat first when the young man ran onto the field and attempted to shake hands with the superstar cricketer. But the fan, it seemed, could only touch the glove of Kohli who reluctantly put his hand forward to avoid the intrusion after the first ball of the match.
