"Of Course He's Ready" To Play For India: SRH Head Coach On Rahul Tripathi

After Rahul Tripathi's match-winning 76 off 44 deliveries against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, SunRisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody said that the batter is ready to play for India. Tripathi's blinder powered SRH to 193/6 after being put in to bat by Rohit Sharma. Umran Malik's three-wicket haul and some good death overs bowling then helped them restrict MI to 190/7 to register a three-run win and keep alive slim hopes of reaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs.

IPL 2022, SRH vs MI: On a rollercoaster ride, Sunrisers Hyderabad meet Mumbai Indians in a must-win game

Sunrisers Hyderabad will need to snap their five-match losing streak when they take on an already eliminated Mumbai Indians in the IPL here on Tuesday. It has been a rollercoaster ride for SRH who won five games in a row before losing the next five. SRH, if they win their two remaining games including the one against MI, will jump to 14 points and then be left hoping that the other results go their way to have an outside chance of making the play-offs. But a loss against Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium will surely eliminate them, as there are already seven teams now with 12 or more points. Hyderabad will need to put up a much improved show with the bat. Skipper Williamson is enduring a wretched run in this season and the Kiwi has collected just 208 runs from 12 games at an average of 18.92. He needs to find his mojo. Head coach Tom Moody defended the move to open with an out-of-form Williamson and the New Zealander will need to prove his coach right.

IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody defends playing out-of-form Kane Williamson as opener

Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody has defended playing captain Kane Williamson as an opener despite the batsman's ongoing run drought in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Williamson's tally of 208 runs from 12 matches has come at a strike rate of 92.85, the worst among batsmen with a minimum of 100 runs this season. In Saturday's match against Kolkata Knight Riders, the New Zealand captain managed just nine off 17 balls, but Moody said he was against tinkering with the Hyderabad middle order, which had been working well for them. "Rahul Tripathi has batted exceptionally well at number three and (Aiden) Markram has been one of the leading batters in the tournament at four," Moody said after their defeat by Kolkata in Pune. "So, we felt why change something that's working for something that's not working. We have trusted Kane with his quality, there's no question of his world-class quality. So, that's why we haven't made that move because as we have seen throughout the tournament where the batting has been functioning really well."
