Girolami secured the pole position by topping the top-five Q3 shoot-out, after the Q2 session was interrupted by a heavy accident for Thed Björk in his Cyan Performance Lynk & Co, from which the Swede was fortunate to emerge uninjured. In the 30-minute Q1 session, Mikel Azcona’s BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse Elantra N TCR topped the times ahead of Girolami, Gilles Magnus (Audi), Guerrieri and Ma Qing Hua (Lynk & Co).

Tom Coronel prepared for this weekend’s opening rounds of the 2022 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup in style by completing the Race 2 podium when the TCR Europe series got underway in Portugal last weekend. Driving an Audi RS 3 LMS for Comtoyou Racing, Coronel followed up his eighth place in Race 1 on Saturday by finishing third in Race 2 yesterday (Sunday).
Tom Coronel will start his 17th season of FIA World Touring Car racing and his 33rd in motorsport when he contests the 2022 WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup using a number very popular in his native Netherlands. Since 2019, Coronel has matched his race number with the number of seasons he’s been competing behind the wheel and took #30 for his WTCR campaign that year.
Ever-present WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup entrant Comtoyou Racing has underlined its commitment to the series with a four-strong glory bid. It has retained existing trio Nathanaël Berthon, Tom Coronel and Gilles Magnus and re-signed Mehdi Bennani, who won the TCR Europe title as a driver in 2020 and helped the Belgian squad to the teams’ award in the process.
