Tom Coronel was able to savour some “classic touring car racing” during the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup’s visit to the Alsace GrandEst region of France last weekend. Driving a Goodyear-equipped Audi RS 3 LMS for Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport, the Dutchman scored a weekend-best sixth in Race 1 at Circuit l’Anneau du Rhin.
Comtoyou Team Audi Sport driver Mehdi Bennani is set to start Race 2 at WTCR Race Alsace GrandEst from pole position on the partially-reversed grid following the conclusion of Qualifying at Anneau du Rhin this afternoon. The Moroccan qualified 10th for the opening race in his Goodyear-equipped Audi RS 3 LMS, defeating LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler’s Attila Tassi to the position by just 0.034s and converting that into Race 2 pole under the series’ regulations.
Norbert Michelisz showed that BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse will be a force to be reckoned with at Circuit l’Anneau du Rhin by heading a one-two result for the team in an ultra-tight Free Practice 2 at WTCR Race of Alsace GrandEst. The Hungarian and his Spanish team-mate Mikel Azcona controlled the session throughout; Michelisz saving his best effort of 1m26.769s until the final lap of the session to set the pace by just 0.003s.
Nathanaël Berthon and Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport set the pace in the opening free practice sesson at Circuit l’Anneau du Rhin as the WTCR Race of Alsace GrandEst officially began this morning. The Frenchman, competing on home soil this weekend, went fastest with a time of 1m26.566s with four of the 45 scheduled minutes remaining aboard his Audi RS 3 LMS.

Medals will be up for grabs in the Touring Car section of the second FIA Motorsport Games at Circuit Paul Ricard from October 26-30 – and WTCR drivers could be in the mix for a share of the glory. One of the six disciplines included in the first FIA Motorsport Games at Vallelunga in 2019, the Touring Car category is among 17 disciplines planned during FIA Motorsport Games 2022 and will follow the TCR regulations from WSC, which are also used as standard in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup.
The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup’s WTCR 100 Club has six members following WTCR Race of Italy. Four drivers have started 100 WTCR races with two now on 101 starts.
