Jelang penutupan bursa transfer musim panas, Chelsea mendatangkan kiper baru. Dia adalah Djordje Petrovic, yang digaet dari klub MLS, New England Revolution.
LONDON: Chelsea completed the signing of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Major League Soccer club New England Revolution on Saturday. The 23-year-old Serbia international signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge and will initially be expected to be a backup to summer signing Robert Sanchez. The clubs did not disclose the transfer fee, but British media reported the deal was worth 14 million pounds ($17.6 million). “Playing in the Premier League is something I’m really looking forward to doing and I hope to learn many things here at Chelsea. I can’t wait to meet everyone and play at Stamford Bridge,” Petrovic said in a statement. Petrovic made 22 appearances for New England this season and was named to the MLS All-Star team. He is the latest newcomer at Stamford Bridge following a spending spree of more than $1 billion over the last 18 months by the club’s American ownership fronted by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. Despite that, the club have just one win in their first three games of the season and Mauricio Pochettino said after Friday’s victory over Luton that he still wants to bring in more signings. “We still need one offensive player more,” Pochettino said.
Premier League clubs have splurged a record 1.95 billion pounds ($2.45 billion) on players in the summer transfer window, with spending expected to exceed 2 billion pounds, according to analysis from Deloitte published on Friday.
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino suffered his first defeat as Michail Antonio's superb strike and Enzo Fernandez's penalty miss condemned the Blues to a 3-1 loss against West Ham on Sunday.
LONDON: New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino's wait for a first victory will go on for five more days at least as his side flattered to deceive in a 3-1 away loss at West Ham United on Sunday (Aug 20).
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino suffered his first defeat as Michail Antonio's superb strike and Enzo Fernandez's penalty miss condemned the Blues to a 3-1 loss against West Ham on Sunday. After last weekend's 1-1 draw against Liverpool, Pochettino's side wasted a lively performance as they paid the price for sloppy defending and wasteful finishing at the London Stadium. Antonio blasted West Ham's decisive second goal after half-time and Lucas Paqueta added a late penalty to leave Pochettino still waiting for his first Premier League win since taking charge in the close-season.
Manager Pep Guardiola says Manchester City would be “killed” if they indulged in the level of spending seen at Chelsea in the last year.
