Experienced pacer Mohammed Shami said it is a "big thing" that India captain Rohit Sharma took responsibility for misreading the pitch during the opening Test against New Zealand. India were left stunned by the Kiwis in the opening Test under a gloomy sky in Bengaluru. Rohit's decision to bat after winning the toss completely backfired on a pitch that was full of moisture. The pace trio of Matt Henry, Will O'Rourke and Tim Southee swung the ball both ways to bowl out India on a mere total of 46.
BENGALURU :New Zealand sealed their first test win in India since 1988 after chasing down a tricky target in hostile conditions to overcome the hosts by eight wickets on the final day of the first test on Sunday.
India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant missed out on his century by a solitary run in the ongoing 1st Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Pant was batting on 99 when Kiwi pacer William O'Rourke denied him a century with a delivery from around the wicket that took the inside edge of the bat and rattled the stumps. Pant came out to bat amid concerns over his fitness, having been stretched off the ground on Day 2. He did not take the field on Day 3 as Dhruv Jurel kept the wickets once again.
After scoring his maiden century for India against New Zealand in the Bengaluru Test, batter Sarfaraz Khan on Saturday said that it was an amazing feeling for him to score his first ton for the country. Sarfaraz Khan played a 150-run knock from 195 balls at a strike rate of 76.92. He smashed 18 fours and 3 sixes during his time on the crease. He was unlucky in the 85th over of India's second inning when Tim Southee removed him from the crease.
BENGALURU :India were in danger of suffering their first home test loss to New Zealand since 1988, despite Sarfaraz Khan's 150 and Rishabh Pant's 99, when the tourists bowled them out for 462 on the fourth day of their rain-interrupted series opener on Saturday.
BENGALURU :Sarfaraz Khan dazzled under the lights to score his maiden test century while Rishabh Pant blasted 99 as India powered to 438-6 at tea on the fourth day of the rain-interrupted series opener on Saturday, building up a slender lead of 82 runs.
The first Test between India and New Zealand has brought up a bunch of injury concerns for the home side. While Shubman Gill suffered neck and shoulder pain before the Test, Rishabh Pant had to leave the field on Day 2 after getting knee discomfort. On Day 3, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury to his middle finger while bowling. Bumrah's finger started bleeding during the middle of the game. However, in a display of courage, not only did Bumrah finish that over, but later came back to bowl another.
