ZHANGJIAKOU, China : Fresh snow was a curse not a blessing at the women's freeski slopestyle qualifiers at the Beijing Games on Monday as athletes skidded, crashed and fell during what many described as a challenging and sometimes scary event.
ZHANGJIAKOU, China : China's Eileen Gu made it safely through "scary" freestyle skiing slopestyle qualifiers at the Beijing Olympics on Monday, roaring back in her second run with jumps and mid-air grabs to advance to the final.
It’s day 10 of the Olympic Winter Games and, while there are only four medals available today, there is still plenty of action to enjoy across seven disciplines.
Eileen Gu, Kirsty Muir and Katie Summerhayes will have to wait for the chance to impress in the women’s freeski slopestyle after Sunday’s qualifiers were postponed due to bad weather. The first qualifying run had been set to start at 02:00 GMT but was initially delayed due to heavy snow – the first to fall in Beijing at the 2022 Winter Games.
Eileen Gu is one of the biggest breakout stars from the Beijing Winter Olympics. The freestyle skier had already made a name for herself in China by claiming X Games golds in the superpipe and slopestyle events last year and she now has an Olympic gold to add to her CV at just 18 years old.
Eileen Gu is writing, composing and playing piano as she looks to remain focused before trying to add to her big air freestyle skiing gold at Beijing 2022. The Chinese star broke the internet in China after landing a 1620 trick to become an Olympic champion by just 0.75 points ahead of France’s Tess Ledeux. Ad/> Gu is hoping for further glory in the freeski slopestyle and halfpipe, and she opened up to Olympics.com about her downtime between events.
The discipline of freestyle skiing covers six events: aerials, big air, halfpipe, moguls, slopestyle and ski cross.
