India bowlers made the most of extremely favourable bowling conditions to set up an ultimately straightforward eight-wicket win over South Africa in the first T20 in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Arshdeep Singh returned to India colours in fabulous fashion as he produced a grand show of swing bowling, sending back three South African batters in an over to break the back of the Proteas top order. Arshdeep came in to bowl the second over of the innings in the 1st T20I at Thiruvananthapuram after Deepak Chahar had already given India a good start by sending back captain Temba Bavuma.
India were off to a fabulous start in the first T20I against South Africa as Deepak Chahar clean bowled the Proteas captain for a duck in the very first over of the match. Chahar opened the bowling for India after Rohit Sharma chose to field first and was on the money with all his deliveries.
After a thrilling 2-1 win over Australia in a three-match T20I series, Team India is all geared-up for a T20I series against against South Africa, which will also be their last T20I series, ahead of the T20 World Cup. The first match will be played on Wednesday at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be going in without Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, as they have been rested for the series. Team India will look to maintain their winning streak, in order to practice for the World Cup in October. Following the T20I series, both the teams will be squaring off for a three-match ODI series.
South Africa will match India on boundaries when this week's T20 series gets underway but the Proteas expect a challenge rivalling their last showdown with the hosts, skipper Temba Bavuma said Tuesday.
India and South Africa will have little time to find the final parts of their T20 jigsaw puzzle when the three-match T20 series begins in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Asia Cup. Since the Super 4s of the Asia Cup, India have played six T20Is and won three of them while losing three. However, all the three defeats -- against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia -- have come while defending targets. Contrary to Rathour's claims, none of the Indian team members, who spoke to the media after the defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Dubai, blamed it on the dew factor making defending difficult.
