Australian cricket legend Shane Warne, unarguably the greatest spinner in international cricket, died at the age of 52 due to a suspected heart attack in Thailand on Friday. Warne's management released a brief statement in the early hours of Saturday (AEDT), that he passed away in Koh Samui, Thailand, of a suspected heart attack. "Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived," read a part of the statement. "The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course," the report quoted from the statement.
Australia batter Steve Smith will miss the remaining three T20Is against Sri Lanka due to concussion, Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed on Sunday. Smith made an athletic leap to save a six in the final over of the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Sunday and it saw the Australia batter put his body on the line, with his head crashing into the turf on landing. "Steve Smith has a concussion and will be subject to low-level protocols for the next few days and full recovery in 6-7 days. He will miss the remainder of the T20 International Series against Sri Lanka," the official handle of Cricket Australia tweeted.
Josh Inglis' 48-run knock, Pathum Nissanka's 73-run knock and Josh Hazlewood's three-wicket haul were the standout performances as Australia defeated Sri Lanka in the super over to win the second T20I of the five-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. With this win, Australia have gained a 2-0 lead in the five-match series and the third T20I will now be played on Tuesday. In the super over, Sri Lanka scored just five runs and Australia managed to chase it down. Chasing 165, Sri Lanka got off to a bad start as the side lost Danushka Gunathilaka (0) on the fifth ball of the innings to Josh Hazlewood. In his next over, Hazlewood struck again as he dismissed Avishka Fernando (5). Charith Asalanka (0) was bowled for a duck by Pat Cummins and Sri Lanka were reduced to 25/3 in the fifth over.
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bowl in the second Twenty20 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Josh Hazlewood claimed career-best Twenty20 international figures of 4-12 to guide Australia to a 20-run victory against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday, in the rain-affected opener of the five-match series. Australia comfortably defended a Duckworth-Lewis-Stern adjusted target score of 143, with spinner Adam Zampa (3-18) inflicting early damage before Hazlewood iced the game with late wickets. The tourists ended on 122-8 after 19 overs, with the chase reduced after rain interrupted in the 15th over.
