LONDON: The Indian Premier League’s new rule requiring bat checks before batsmen take guard has sparked mixed reactions among players.
Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje became the first couple of players to be denied usage of their first-choice bats as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intensifies its 'bat-check' regime. The KKR duo failed the gauge check during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Punjab Kings on Tuesday. A few other batters' bats were also checked, but only Narine and Nortje failed the test. IPL governor Arun Dhumal has broken his silence on the matter, asserting what the 'way forward' is going to be in the T20 league.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal tied with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) legend Sunil Narine for most four-wicket hauls in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal achieved this milestone during his side's match against KKR at Mullanpur on Tuesday. During the match, Chahal delivered a game-changing spell of 4/28 in four overs, getting wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh that made KKR collapse from 62/2 to 95 all out while chasing 112 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine has a world-renowned reputation of being an explosive hitter of the cricket ball. However, the West Indian had to face embarrassment during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday when he failed the customary bat check. The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council has introduced random bat checks during games to prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage in games. When Narine's bat was checked as he was preparing to walk out, it was found to be breaching the acceptable limit.
Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders Live Updates, IPL 2025: Harshit Rana returned figures of 3 for 25 as KKR bowled out PBKS for 111 runs in their IPL 2025 match at Mullanpur. Varun Chakaravarthy (2 for 21) and Sunil Narine (2 for 14) claimed two wickets apiece.
Sunil Narine is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to don the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) jersey. Now 36, Narine has evolved from a mystery spinner into a multi-dimensional all-rounder, having helped KKR win three Indian Premier League (IPL) titles and won three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards. However, former KKR player Manvinder Bisla - who played with him in the title-winning teams of 2012 and 2014 - has revealed that the secret to Narine's success was that he never bowled in the nets.
MS Dhoni's controversial dismissal left social media divided during Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2025 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on Friday. Dhoni came out to bat at No. 8 behind the likes of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja but he was dismissed for just 1. During the 16th over of the CSK innings, Dhoni was beaten by a delivery from Sunil Narine that crashed into his pads. The on-field umpire raised his finger but the veteran CSK star instantly went for a review. There were very small spikes in the UltraEdge when the ball went past the bat but the third umpire decided to stay with the existing decision. The decision led to a lot of chatter on social media with many criticising the third umpire for his call.
Lucknow Super Giants held their nerve in a high-scoring contest to edge past Kolkata Knight Riders by four runs in a pulsating IPL clash at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday. On a night dominated by batters, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane rolled back the years with a power-packed 61 off 35 balls, nearly pulling off KKR's highest-ever run chase. But LSG's spin attack, led by Ravi Bishnoi and Digvesh Rathi, applied the brakes just in time to seal a thrilling win, limiting KKR to 234/7 after the away team amassed 238 for three .
