The legendary Sunil Gavaskar on Monday lashed out at senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for letting the team down and blamed the Indian top- order for losing the Boxing Day Test against Australia here. Set a target of 340 on the final day of the fourth Test, the Indian batters, with the exception of Yashasvi Jaiswal (84), faltered yet again to lose the match by 184 runs and trail 1-2 in the five-match series. When asked what the future holds for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in 2025, Gavaskar gave a detailed answer.

Pant was dismissed by Scott Boland while trying to play a flick shot and that led to Gavaskar blasting the youngster and calling the shot "stupid". Not in the situation that India was. You have to understand the situation as well. You cannot say that is your natural game. I am sorry that is not your natural game. That is a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly. He should not be going in that (Indian) dressing room, he should be going into the other dressing room," Gavaskar said on ABC Sport.

It was the same careless old way of dismissal, something which made Gavaskar start a rant that has gone viral. Had Pant stuck around, there was no way he wouldn't have scored big.
