BIRMINGHAM, England: The first Ashes test was tantalisingly poised as England were all out for 273 in their second innings just before tea on day four at Edgbaston on Monday, leaving Australia needing 281 to triumph in an enthralling series opener.
England pacer Stuart Broad did the inevitable as he dismissed Australia opener David Warner for the 15th time in Test cricket. The incident happened on Day 2 of the ongoing first Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Broad got the chance to bowl at the former Australia captain at the end of the opening day after England declared at 393/8, but Warner survived a nervy 20-minute session against his nemesis. However, Broad struck with the first ball of his fourth over of the morning as Warner inside-edged the delivery back onto his stumps.

England didn't have a good start on Day 2 but Broad later dismissed set batter David Warner and newcomer Marnus Labuchagne on consecutive deliveries to put his side on top. Steve Smith came in at number 4 and got the tough task to steady the Australian ship. However, before that he had to stop Broad from taking a hat-trick.

Broad was the pick of the bowlers for England as he struck twice in two balls to remove David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne. However, Australia recovered to 311-5 at stumps on the second day, 82 runs behind England's first-innings 393-8 declared, with left-handed opener Khawaja 126 not out.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen and Nasser Hussain had a heated discussion over current Three Lions skipper Ben Stokes' decision to declare the first innings at 393/8 in the opening Ashes Test against Australia. Stokes called it a hault on day 1 when Joe Root was batting well at 121*. While Pietersen said that he did not like it as the wicket seemed flat, Hussain backed the decision made by Stokes, saying that he wanted to see Stuart Broad bowl against David Warner on Day 1.
