The incident happened in the 8th over of India's innings after Kohli walked out to bat, following Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal. After Jaiswal, Kohli too was caught in the slip cordon off Scott Boland's delivery. Boland bowled a length ball, inducing an edge from Kohli's bat that flew to Steve Smith at second slip. However, Smith scooped it up but the ball seemed to have touched the grass before it was taken by Marnus Labuschagne at gully.

Team India's struggles against the new ball continue in Sydney as the likes of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal fail early to pacers. India seemed to have made some amends as Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill began forming a partnership but the latter departed on the final delivery of the first session, with Nathan Lyon emerging as his wicket-taker. Gill looked solid and decisive with his strokeplay until that delivery from Lyon but slip fielder Steve Smith also deserves credit for unsettling the India star.

Australia batter Steve Smith on Friday reacted to India batter Virat Kohli's catch in the first session on Day 1 of the Sydney Test and said that he is 100 per cent sure of getting a hand under it. The incident took place in the 7.5 over of India's first session when Virat Kohli walked in as he replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal on the crease. Kohli faced Australia pacer Scott Boland in his first ball and got saved from another embarrassment. The Aussie pacer delivered a length ball which took an edge from Kohli's bat and went down to Smith. The Aussie batter who was standing on the slips scooped it up but the ball just touched the turf before it was taken by Smith's compatriot at gully.

Australia are scheduled to play two Tests in Sri Lanka on January 29 and February 6, around the same time his wife -- Becky -- is due to give birth. "It's pretty hard to plan exactly the day, but definitely (I might miss the Sri Lanka tour)," Cummins told 'The Daily Telegraph' at the launch of the Pink Test, starting here on Friday. In Cummins absence, Steve Smith or Travis Head will lead Australia.
