ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Marnus Labuschagne fell for 90 as Australia reached 364-4 in their reply to Pakistan's first innings total of 476-4 declared on a rain-marred fourth day of the opening test in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Pakistan cricket's star player Shaheen Afridi rattled Australia when his captain needed it the most, proving once again the brilliant purple patch the fast bowler is currently going through. Although the start of Day 4 was delayed due to rain which resulted in the loss of the first session entirely, the match began post lunch. Australia batters Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne made their way to the middle with Australia on 271/2, continuing from where they left off at stumps on Day 3. Although, the Pakistan bowlers looked quite penetrative with the old ball, skipper Babar Azam pounced on the very first opportunity of taking the new ball after the 80th over, handing it to Afridi.

Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has condoled the untimely demise of Shane Warne, saying it is now his duty to pass the teachings of the legendary spinner to the younger generation. Warne had passed away on Friday aged 52 after a suspected heart attack. "He was a teacher through his commentary and I've seen hundreds of photos over the last 24 hours of all the spinners he worked with. He helped Steve Smith in his younger days and Rashid Khan has been catching up with him - just imagine the conversations they would have had. So I feel it is now up to me, whenever I get an opportunity, to just let the world know what he was like and pass on some of the things I learnt from him," Ponting said on the 'ICC Review'.

Having been made to toil on the first two days of the opening Test against Pakistan, Australia returned the favour on Day 3 by piling on the runs in Rawalpindi. Usman Khawaja and David Warner put on 156 runs for the opening wicket to frustrate the Pakistan bowlers. Khawaja was dismissed for a brilliant 97 while Warner made 68. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith then took centrestage as Australia reached 271 for two at stumps on Day 3. Despite some stare downs from Pakistan bowlers, Warner took on the opposition with a smile on his face.
