Pakistan vs Australia: David Warner wants a better pitch for 2nd Test against Pakistan

Australia opener David Warner said he hopes for an improved pitch for the second Test in Karachi after the visitors could claim only four Pakistan wickets in the series-opening draw on Rawalpindi's docile wicket. “I just want a game where you can actually create 20 chances,” Warner said on Thursday. “It's something that's going to be exciting and entertaining for the crowd.” Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja has acknowledged that drawn games are not a good advertisement for Test cricket and Pindi Cricket Stadium's wicket was described by Australia batter and vice captain Steve Smith as a “dead wicket.”

Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test: Aussies look to second spinner after Rawalpindi stalemate

The historic occasion -- Australia's first Test in Pakistan since 1998 -- was marred by a pitch described as "dead" by vice-captain Steve Smith as Pakistan piled up 728 runs for the loss of just four wickets, and one of those was a run out. Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique both made maiden Test hundreds -- Imam scoring one in each innings -- while senior batsman Azhar Ali also passed three figures during five attritional days. The series now moves to Karachi's National Stadium, a favourite hunting ground for Pakistan, who have won 23 of the 43 Tests they have played there while losing only twice. Australia have never won in Karachi in eight attempts, losing five and drawing three.

Australia Look To Second Spinner After Rawalpindi Stalemate

Australia are likely to play two spinners as they go in search of a win in Saturday's second Test in Karachi after Pakistan batted their seamers into the ground in the draw at Rawalpindi. Ravindra Jadeja Becomes Number 1 All-Rounder In ICC Test Rankings

India's Ravindra Jadeja rose to the number 1 spot in ICC Test rankings for all-rounders after his match-winning performance against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Mohali. Jadeja displaced West Indies' Jason Holder to grab the top spot. It's not the first time that the Indian spinner has topped the all-rounder rankings, and his move to the summit comes as little surprise after a stunning show in the series opener against Sri Lanka. The India all-rounder was adjudged Player of the Match for scoring a sublime unbeaten 175 in the first innings to help India to a formidable 574/8 declared. He followed it up with a five-wicket haul in Sri Lanka's first innings, and the pick of the figures in the second innings too with 4/46. Jadeja 175* was also the highest score by an Indian batting at No.7 or lower in Test cricket, bettering Kapil Dev's long-standing record.

ICC won't rate Rawalpindi pitch poor: PCB source

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not think that the ICC will rate it 'poor' or 'not up to the mark' for Test cricket. The Test between hosts Pakistan and Australia ended in a high-scoring draw but visiting skipper Pat Cummins and top batter Steve Smith were not impressed with the quality of the strip. "Turning up to a pitch that's probably not a traditional pitch you would get here in Rawalpindi, and it's probably clear they've made an effort to try and nullify the pace bowling," Cummins said.
