German car giant Audi has announced it will enter Formula One in 2026.
German car manufacturer Audi will become an engine supplier in Formula One for the first time in the 2026 season, chairman Markus Duesmann announced on Friday. Audi will announce the team they will supply by the end of the year although it is widely expected to be Sauber, who presently race as Alfa Romeo with a Ferrari engine. The announcement was made at Spa Francorchamps, the venue for Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix with Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali and Mohammed ben Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), motorsport's governing body present.
Formula 1 and Audi confirmed the German automaker's involvement in the sport in 2026 as a power unit supplier.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says that while the right steps are being put in place to introduce a female driver onto the grid, we will not see one in the near future.
Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali does not anticipate a woman joining the sport in the next five years. Just two women have competed in an F1 Grand Prix. Maria Teresa de Filippis made five appearances in the 1950s while Lella Lombardi raced 12 times in the 1970s.
Formula 1 chief Stefano Domenicali warned Wednesday that "history is not enough" and that mere nostalgia cannot guarantee the survival of grand prix landmarks. Doubts over the long-term futures of iconic races such as Spa in Belgium and Monza in Italy have lingered this season. At the same time, new, money-spinning stops on the calendar have arrived in Saudi Arabia and Miami.
