"IPL Coming But...": Sunil Gavaskar Issues Grave Warning Ahead Of World Cup

The Indian team shouldn't commit the mistake of forgetting the ODI series defeat against Australia amid the noise created by the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning on March 31, said the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. India lost the third and final ODI by 21 runs in Chennai on Wednesday to concede the series 1-2 to Australia, and batting legend Gavaskar said Rohit Sharma's men could be up against the same opponents in the 50-over World Cup which the country is hosting in October-November.

Indian cricket team legend Sunil Gavaskar was not happy with skipper Rohit Sharma missing the first ODI encounter against Australia due to “family commitments” and said that such reasons have no place on the year of the ODI World Cup. Hardik Pandya led the team in Rohit's absence and the hosts were able to clinch the victory thanks to a solid knock from KL Rahul. However, Rohit's return to the side was not enough for them to clinch the series as the visitors won the next two matches. Gavaskar was not happy with the decision taken by Rohit and said that the team needs a “continuity in leadership”.

There was a point in the Australian innings when Jadeja was frustrated after Siraj missed a tough catching opportunity.

Team India kick-started the three-match ODI series with a brilliant five-wicket win in the first match on Friday. Later, Team India suffered an early loss of wickets as they were five down with only 83 runs on the board. It was then KL Rahul, who stood up and played an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 91 balls and took the Hardik Pandya-led side across the line, in just 39.5 overs. Rahul's magnificent knock left everyone utterly impressed as the batter was earlier going through a lean patch and had lost his place in the team, after back-to-back failures.

Virat Kohli on Sunday once again became a victim of LBW dismissal. The batter was dismissed for 31 runs on the bowling of Nathan Ellis as he missed his flick down the leg side in the second ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam. His mode of dismissal was similar to that in the first ODI in which a Mitchell Starc delivery hit him on the pad and he had to depart for four runs. Former India captain and batter Sunil Gavaskar was unhappy over the fact that Kohli made the same mistake of playing across the line in the second ODI as well.
