Harry Kane On Verge Of First Career Trophy As Bayern Munich Eye Bundesliga Title

After a career of individual awards but no team honours, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane's title breakthrough could come as early as full time of Saturday's home match against Mainz. If they beat sixth-placed Mainz and second-placed Bayer Leverkusen fail to beat Augsburg at home, Bayern and Kane will be crowned Bundesliga winners. Bayern are eight points clear with four games remaining, so a first title for Kane is a mere formality. But after losing six finals -- three with Tottenham, two with England and one with Bayern -- a debut title win would be a long-awaited reward for the 31-year-old forward.

Bayern Munich Close In On Bundesliga Title With Heidenheim Thumping

Harry Kane scored his 24th league goal of the season as Bayern Munich romped to a 4-0 win at Heidenheim on Saturday, moving the German giants ever closer to the Bundesliga title. Kane joined Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich on the scoresheet. The victory took Bayern nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who play at St Pauli on Sunday. "It was a very important step towards the title," Kimmich told Sky Germany. "We're now nine points ahead -- and Leverkusen have to win. But we're not really looking at them. We have to win at least two more games to secure the title."

Last-gasp Buendia goal keeps Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title hopes alive

HEIDENHEIM, Germany: Emiliano Buendia snatched a stoppage-time winner to take Bayer Leverkusen to a 1-0 win at Heidenheim on Saturday, keeping their slim hopes of defending their league title alive. Eliminated from the German Cup by third-division Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday, Leverkusen needed a win to stay six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, who won 3-1 at Augsburg on Friday. Xabi Alonso’s side looked out of ideas in attack against the relegation candidates, missing the creative spark of injured playmaker Florian Wirtz. However, as they have done so often under the Spaniard, Leverkusen scored in injury time to grab all three points, Buendia curling home from outside the box on 91 minutes. Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah said: “We didn’t play a good game at all... It was difficult today — at the end we needed a bit of luck.” “We needed to win today, we did it, job done — and now we’re still in with a shot,” Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka told Sky Germany. The goal was Buendia’s first since arriving on loan from Aston Villa and may prove crucial to Leverkusen’s hopes of catching up with an injury-ravaged Bayern side, with six games in the season remaining.

Borussia Dortmund Keep Top 4 Hopes Alive, Serhou Guirassy Takes Season Tally To 24 Goals

Serhou Guirassy scored as Borussia Dortmund boosted their slim top-four hopes with a 2-0 win at St Pauli on Saturday, while RB Leipzig's slide continued with a home loss to Mainz. Fresh from scoring four goals in a 6-0 demolition of Union Berlin last time out, Guirassy put Dortmund in front five minutes into the second half, tapping in a Karim Adeyemi pass. Adeyemi put Dortmund in the driver's seat with an excellent solo goal eight minutes later. The 23-year-old Adeyemi, one of the smallest players on the pitch, latched onto a long ball and used his strength to grapple past two defenders before slotting home.
