India batter Shubman Gill caught everyone's attention with a half-century in his County Championship debut match for Glamorgan against Worcestershire in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Wednesday. Gill brought up his fifty in 87 balls and gave his side a strong start. But unfortunately, the batter had a disappointing end as he was dismissed at 92. In the 67th over, which was bowled by Ed Barnard, Gill was LBW out and shown the way to the pavilion. Shubman Gill earned a recall to the Indian ODI side this year, and has taken his opportunities with both hands, winning the Player of the Series award against both West Indies and Zimbabwe. In the six matches he has played against the Windies and Zimbabwe, Gill scored three half-centuries and a century. He could have had another ton as well, but rain played spoilsport and left him stranded on 98 in the 3rd ODI against West Indies. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris said the 22-year-old has "a huge future in front of him" and that he is putting pressure on veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, with the World Cup set to be played in India next year.

Talented Shubman Gill will be representing Glamorgan for the remainder of the English county season joining a host of Indian players led by Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been plying his trade in the United Kingdom. Gill, who has had two back-to-back Player of the Series awards in ODIs against the West Indies and Zimbabwe, has so far played 11 Tests and nine ODIs for India. He has been in tremendous form of late with one hundred and three fifties in his last six 50-over games. He is also an integral part of the Indian Test squad.

Indian opener Shubman Gill has jumped a whopping 45 places to be ranked 38th in the ICC ODI rankings released on Wednesday. The 22-year-old youngster had a memorable outing in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe that also saw him scoring his maiden ton (130 off 97 balls) in the last game in Harare. Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who did not feature in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, held on to his fifth position with a rating points of 744.

Talented India batter Shubman Gill said former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh had told him to bat through once he is well set, an advice which paid off as he smashed his maiden ODI hundred during the third match against Zimbabwe here. Gill on Monday slammed 130 off 97 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and one six to steer India to a 13-run win and a 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe. His innings earned him accolades from several former players, including Yuvraj, who had taken to twitter to lavish praise on him.

Sikandar Raza garnered a lot of applause as he scored a century for Zimbabwe while chasing a mammoth target of 290 against India in the third and final ODI of the three-match series on Monday at Harare. With Shubman Gill's maiden international century, the KL Rahul-led side posted 289/8 in 50 overs. It was then, Raza took the matter into his hands to smash 115 and leave Zimbabwe needing 17 runs off 12 balls for victory. But, India had the last laugh as he was caught by Gill in the penultimate over, who took a fantastic catch to dismiss Raza. Apart from the brilliant catch, the cricket fans all-over the world, got to witness a heartfelt moment when Ishan Kishan and Kuldeep Yadav came to laud Raza after his dismissal.

It is a "little tough" to cool his heels after a couple of games but Axar Patel wants to put his best foot forward in his bid to use every opportunity that comes along his way. A like-for-like replacement of Ravindra Jadeja, the left-arm spinner and useful lower-middle-order batter is still not an India regular although he he has 50 plus wickets in ODIs since 2014. "It is a little tough when you play two matches and suddenly you've to sit out," Axar said at the post-match press conference after India's 13-run win over Zimbabwe in the third ODI.
