With the Indian team's next assignment scheduled in late Septemeber, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the four squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy tournament, which will be played between September 5 and 24 in Anantapur. Top stars, minus Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, will feature in the first round of the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it mandatory for all the centrally contracted players, who are fit and off national duty, to participate in domestic cricket. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are the ones who have already been at the receiving end of the Board's fury for not playing domesic cricket when possible. The two players were excluded from the list of central contracts that was announced by BCCI earlier this year as they missed out on domestic games despite being fit and also away from international circuit.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said on Thursday that star batters Rohit and Virat Kohli should not be insisted on playing Duleep Trophy since exposing them more will have a risk of injuries. The Duleep Trophy, which marks the beginning of red-ball cricket in the domestic season, will feature top India stars from the international circuit and emerging talents competing at the highest level. The tournament is set to begin on September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

The two stalwarts of Indian cricket Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back in the team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Both of them will be playing an international game after a gap of one month. Virat and Rohit called time on their T20I careers after India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, but the duo remain available for the ODI and Test formats. India's first ODI against Sri Lanka will take place at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 2.

Team India left for Sri Lanka on Monday for the upcoming white-ball series. The series will begin from July 27, with three T20Is followed by three ODIs. It came as a huge surprise for everyone as all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was being touted as the most deserving replacement of Rohit, was chosen over Surya. Not only this, Pandya was replaced as the vice-captain by young batter Shubman Gill.

Iyer wasn't technically dropped from ODIs as he had scored a fifty in the last ODI that India played but now that he is back in the mix, he will get his central contract back automatically. But the same can't be said about Ishan Kishan, who is believed to be nowhere on the selection radar.
