Shreyas Iyer Named Captain, Prithvi Shaw Included As Mumbai Name Squad For Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Shreyas Iyer was on Sunday named captain of the 17-member Mumbai squad which also features Prithvi Shaw for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to be played from November 23 to December 15. The squad also features Ajinkya Rahane who has been captaining Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy with the first half of the competition ending recently, and the comeback batter Siddhesh Lad, who has also been among runs. Iyer has been in red-hot form this Ranji Trophy season as he looks to make his way back into the Indian side, scoring 452 runs at 90.40 with two centuries.

Thirteen-year-old India U-19 cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar is the youngest among the lot at Rs 30 lakh base price. The BCCI on Friday pruned the initial list of 1574 players down to 574 out of which 366 are Indians and 208 from overseas. All the current India players are in top base price bracket. Apart from Pant, set to be the costliest buy at the auction with a team like Punjab Kings aiming to go the distance with Rs 110.50 crore in its kitty, the other big names include IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer, India's most prolific T20I bowler Arshdeep Singh, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal and Avesh Khan.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council announced the complete list of players for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Indian cricket team stars like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami have been placed in the marquee lists. While Pant and Iyer are part of Marquee List 1, Rahul and Shami headline the second list. The two-day auction will get underway at 3 PM IST (12:30 PM local time) on November 24. Out of the 574 Players, 366 are Indian and 208 are overseas, including 3 players from associate nations. The Auction will include 318 Indian uncapped players and 12 uncapped overseas players. 204 slots will be up for grabs with 70 available slots for overseas players.
