Pakistan Babar Azam has reached Australia, donning the Test jersey, with the aim being putting the ghosts of Cricket World Cup 2023 behind him. Following his dismal show in the white-ball tournament, Babar decided to relinquish captaincy responsibilities on all three formats of the game. Now, the talismanic batter is solely focused on doing well with the bat, with his immediate assignment being the Test series Down Under. Up against the Prime Minister's XI in the practice match, however, Babar did something that sent the world of social media in meltdown.
Pakistan's experienced wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed laid out the team's plans to ruin Australia's star batter David Warner's farewell Test series. The Men in Green are currently in Canberra to play a 4-day game against the Australian PM XI ahead of the series, which will be played on December 9. After this game, Pakistan will face Australia in the first Test on December 14 in Perth, a game for which Warner has been named in the squad. Ahead of the clash, Sarfaraz stated the team's intentions to spoil Warner's special day and said, as quoted from Geo News, "We will try to get him out as soon as we can; we will try not to let him get off to a good start." A video of Pakistan players loading their luggage in a truck, following their arrival in Australia, had gone viral on social media earlier this week. In the video, Pakistan players were seen helping the luggage crew to load their kit bags and bags. He said that with the team scheduled to catch their next flight in about 30 minutes, the Pakistan players were only helping each other out to save time.
Amid backlash over Haris Rauf's decision to decline an offer from the Pakistan cricket team's selectors to play in the 3-Test series in Australia, Shaheen Afridi backed his teammate, saying that the every player has the right to choose the formats he wants to play. While pointing out that the pacer did not feature in team's last Test assignement, Pakistan's T20I skipper feels Haris' absence for the upcoming Test tour will not be a major concern for the team.
The Pakistan cricket team is going through a lot of contemplation. After a disappointing Cricket World Cup under skipper Babar Azam, where they finished fifth, the national team has seen a lot of changes. They have a new Test captain (Shan Masood) and a T20I captain (Shaheen Afridi). The selection panel is also new. The first task of the new-look Pakistan cricket team will start in Australia in the next few days.
