NOTTINGHAM, England: Chelsea dropped more points in their quest to climb back up the Premier League standings as Serge Aurier earned Nottingham Forest a 1-1 draw with Graham Potter's side on Sunday (Jan 1).
Chelsea boss Graham Potter accepts his side must learn to cope with opposition players being prepared to "run through a brick wall" to beat them and then asking for their shirts after they limped to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest gave their Premier League survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, whose troubles on the road continued. Forest had already beaten Liverpool and Tottenham at the City Ground this season and turned in another impressive performance against one of the big boys. After falling behind to Raheem Sterling's opener against the run of play, they put in a fine second-half display which was rewarded with Serge Aurier's equaliser just after the hour. On the balance of the game, Steve Cooper's men arguably deserved to win as Morgan Gibbs-White hit the crossbar, but this will give them great encouragement in their bid to beat the drop this season. Chelsea did at least stop a fourth away defeat in a row but they will require a vast improvement if they are to close the seven-point gap on the top four. Forest's impressive performance was soured, though, by alleged homophobic chanting from the Forest fans towards the travelling support. Having seen off Liverpool in October and Spurs in the Carabao Cup, there was early optimism for another scalp after the way they started as their pace troubled Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at the City Ground, a result which does little to kickstart either of their seasons. Both Steven Gerrard and Steve Cooper came into this match in desperate need of a win, though the latter was at least given a measure of security after his recent contract extension. Ad Cooper made five changes to the side which lost 4-0 to Leicester last Monday, bringing in Serge Aurier, Harry Toffolo, Remo Freuler, Ryan Yates and Emmanuel Dennis for Neco Williams, Renan Lodi, Lewis O’Brien, Jesse Lingard and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper said his side are still learning how to play as a team after their 4-0 defeat by Leicester City on Monday (Oct 3) left them bottom of the Premier League.
Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier following the expiry of his contract at Villarreal, the promoted Premier League club announced on Wednesday. The right-back becomes Forest's 22nd signing this summer. "Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the signing of Ivory Coast captain Serge Aurier, subject to Visa approval," the club said in a statement.
