Australia's Olympic delegation bathed in pride on Sunday as the country hailed a record Winter Games medal haul for their team and an unlikely hero in skeleton racer Jackie Narracott.

The three medals are already an improvement on PyeongChang 2018, where the team went home with two silvers and a bronze and are on target to add more to their tally before the end of the showpiece on Sunday, 20 February. Should they add more to their collection, the class of 2022 may eclipse their most successful Winter Olympics at Vancouver 2010, where they won two gold and one silver medal.
Olympic snowboard halfpipe champion Ayumu Hirano has slammed the judging during the Beijing 2022 final, reminding the officials that athletes were “putting their lives on the line”. Hirano dropped a historic triple cork during his second run, which many observers thought good enough for an unassailable score, only for the judges to award him 91.75. Ad/> That left the Japanese ace in the silver medal position heading into the final run, which he nailed with a 96.00 to snatch a gold he felt he had already earned.
There were tears. Lots of tears. Some laughs and plenty of smiles, but mostly tears, as the greatest snowboarder of all time, Shaun White, bowed out of competition after the snowboard halfpipe final.
Eight sets of medals have been decided in the snowboarding at Beijing 2022, but there are three more yet to be decided.
