Rory McIlroy is the star attraction as the DP World Tour heads to Rome for the Italian Open. It will be McIlroy's first appearance at the event, and as well as being in the field to win, he is in Rome to get valuable course experience ahead of next year’s Ryder Cup, which is being held at the same Marco Simone Golf and Country Club venue. Edoardo Molinari has lifted the lid on the role he will play ahead of next year’s eagerly-awaited Ryder Cup in Rome. “When I spoke with Luke when he was named captain, he was very keen on having me on board because he thinks that by this time next year I will probably be working with at least half the team, if not more,” said the Italian DP World star, who has carved out a notable side career as a coach to the likes of U.S Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick and Norwegian star Viktor Hovland.
Shane Lowry is hopeful that his victory at the BMW PGA Championship will spur him on to success more regularly on tour.
Rory McIlroy has suggested the likes of Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter’s Ryder Cup days are behind them, and took a dig at their 54-hole format at LIV Golf. Westwood and Poulter, along with the likes of Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer, made the move to LIV Golf earlier in the year.
